Amy Slaton succumbed to a stroke
Amy Slaton from 1000-lb Sisters has had a slew of ongoing health issues that fans would like explained. Amy’s Scorpian personality has helped her redefine stereotypes by appearing on the reality show and successfully starting her own family. Amy’s life has not always been the easiest, and she has also been plagued with underlying health problems along her journey.
Amy and her sister Tammy Slaton joined 1000-lb Sisters in hopes of working on improving their health. Amy successfully lost enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery, which helped her shed more pounds. TLC viewers have watched as Amy’s life has started to turn around for the better since her health improved. One of the greatest achievements for Amy was being able to deliver her son, Gage Halterman. Amy is proud of all she has accomplished when it comes to her weight-loss endeavors. Before becoming a TLC personality, she had a normal life in Kentucky, but a lot has changed for her thanks to her career.
Fans have watched the 1000-lb Sisters star slumber with a sleep apnea mask to make sure she is breathing through the night. Amy’s sugar intake pre-surgery did not help her diabetes. TLC cameras often caught her drinking a case and half of soda a day. Just one 12oz can of a full-fat soda can have up to 39g of sugar, with some studies showing that sugar is as addictive as cocaine. Amy revealed in an earlier season that she also struggled with depression after losing her grandmother at the age of ten. The mother of one contributed the loss of her beloved grandmother to her weight gain. She shared that she and Tammy were forced to fend for themselves while their mother worked, turning to pizza and ramen noodles.
The star is now much more knowledgeable about her nutrition. Amy has pointed out to fans that the healthier options seem to be more expensive than junk food, but she is still making strides in keeping the weight off. Viewers have enjoyed being able to watch Amy’s total 180 and are hoping that Tammy can learn from her sister’s hard work and get back on track in 1000-lb Sisters season 3.
